The Prize for Illustration 2017: Sounds of the City is an exhibition of 100 illustrations, opening at London Transport Museum on 19 May. Visitors will be able to enjoy a visual journey inspired by lyrics and language; hubbub and stillness; heritage and science; through to the wildlife and nightlife of our diverse and multi-layered cities.
The 100 works were chosen from over 2000 entries by an expert panel of judges from the art and design world for the prestigious Prize for Illustration, which is organised by London Transport Museum in partnership with the Association of Illustrators (AOI). Each of the illustrations is accompanied by a short, revealing insight into the artist’s inspiration for their work.
On the opening day the museum will open for an adults only Friday Late. Visitors will be encouraged to respond -through paint- to the music they hear around them, join a tour of the exhibition, or take part in a music themed quiz. There will also be a bar and in-house DJ. Check the website for additional sound and illustration themed events throughout the summer.\
Friday Late 19 May 18.45-22.00

A Night in Soho is unlike any other, once the theatres take their final curtain call, the busy streets empty, and all is quiet. But the art- deco doors of the legendary Phoenix Artist Club are only just opening, and infamous Soho characters come out to play.
Descending the marble staircase and ordering their usual at the bar, they unwind as the glamorous diva and internationally ignored superstar Vanity von Glow entertains them with unique renditions of iconic pop songs and dark humour on every subject of global fame which eludes her, from her opinions on her celebrity nemeses’ to personal heartache. And you never know who might take to the stage during A Night in Soho.
Vanity von Glow enjoys a reputation as a main fixture in Soho cabaret and has enjoyed a continuous run of her popular Sunday night shows for five consecutive years, which has seen her perform with popstars Lily Allen and Sophie Ellis Bextor and appear on TV with superstar Adele.
