Welcome to our combined July and August edition of In and Around Covent Garden featuring what’s going on, restaurant reviews and news. As I write the sun is shining brightly and I am thinking about the best outdoor experiences available in Covent Garden.
One really great outdoor event happening in August is Spotlight which returns to Seven Dials on Saturday 19 August and is a free one-day music, theatre and arts festival. From 12.0018.00 the area will be transformed into a traffic-free, entertainment hot spot where visitors can enjoy a series of live performances from an open-air stage. Check out www.sevendials.co.uk for all the latest information. Highlights include a picnic area with Seven Dials picnic hampers, fun photo opportunities, workshops and a free drink from the Talli Joe pop-up bar. So grab a deck chair on the pop-up lawn around the dial then sit back, relax and enjoy the show. You can also shop at Seven Dials independent boutiques and flagship stores offering exclusive discounts and promotions including 20% discounts, then refuel at one of Seven Dials top ten restaurants which are taking over the streets for one day only.
In August there will also be lots of celebrations at the Jubilee Market as it is 30 years since Her Majesty The Queen re-opened the Jubilee Market, much to all the traders delight. To mark the occasion a lookalike Queen will be visiting the market, along with the Pearly Kings and Queens, bands will play and there will be surprises and treats throughout the two day celebration which is taking place on Friday 4th and Sunday 6th August. The summer is also a great time to take in a theatre show, one brand new musical play that has really got us excited is Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill currently on stage at Wyndham’s Theatre. You can see the lovely Audra McDonald in her role as Billie Holiday on our front cover. Billie Holliday was one of the greatest jazz singers of all time, and Audra really does bring her legend back to life, so it’s definitely one for all you jazz fans out there. All that’s left to say is let the sun shine and hope you all have a great summer!
